The results of complex studies on the use of laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) for remote monitoring of the state of vegetation cover are discussed. We outline the specific features of the new generation of fluorescent light detection and ranging (lidar) systems, enabling measurement of almost continuous LIF spectra from a distance of a few tens of metres. We demonstrate the potentialities of lidar for analysis of traditional spectra of chlorophyll a in wood plants and for the identification of bioaerosols as products of the secondary metabolism of plants. The experimental measurements are supported by theoretical-numerical analysis of applicability limits of the methods developed for identification under conditions of the real turbid atmosphere.
