One of primary goals of a forestry in a coniferous-platyphyllous forest and a taiga zone of the European part of the Russian Federation-reproduction of highly productive valuable coniferous stands. It is known, that at clear fellings in productive site types negative influence of undesirable vegetation on cultures of coniferous plantations is greatest. The greatest danger to forest plantations the herbaceous vegetation represents to the first years after their creation, later-a coppice shoot and root off-springs deciduous tree species. The most effective method of control of undesirable vegetation is chemical, providing application of the modern herbicides which are meeting the requirements of modern ecological safety and registered for application in a forestry of the Russian Federation. In connection with growth of the areas of the plantations created by a ball-rooted seedlings, more and more actual there is a problem of their protection against negative influence of undesirable vegetation. In connection with specific features of a planting material of the modern forest selection-seed-growing centres and greenhouse complexes (height of stem, diameter of root collar, volume of container, biological age less than two years), developed before the recommendation for application of herbicides for a care of plantations demand updating. On the basis of the carried out researches the basic technology schedules of application of herbicides and their mixtures were developed at chemical treatment the areas under planting of pine and spruce plantations created of the ball-rooted seedlings.
The spread of bryophytes (liverwort and green mosses) on the media surface of the nutritious substratum filling the containers, is a serious obstacle when growing ball-rooted coniferous seedlings. This problem for a long time have collided in the countries of Northern America and Europe. Countries in North America and Europe have collided with this problem for a long time. Russia has started to experience it only in recent years due to an increased output of such seedlings grown in greenhouses. The technology of cultivation of the ball-rooted planting stock in the forest seed-growing centres, providing regular plentiful waterings and top dressing, promotes growth of bryophytes (including liverwort) already since a greenhouse. After moving of containers with seedlings on hardening grounds the growth and development of undesirable vegetation proceeds. The article presents the results of field experiments carried out in the Leningrad Region in 2018 and 2019 with the aim to test the effectiveness of modern herbicides against Sosnowsky’s hogweed and other undesirable herbaceous plants in various types of forest lands: in a clear cutting, spruce plantation, hayfield and on the side of a forest road. The herbicides Magnum (water dispersed granules, 600 g/kg of metsulfuron-methyl), Ancor-85 (water dispersed granules, 750 g/kg of potassium salt of sulfometuron-methyl) and a mixture of Roundup (360 g/l of glyphosate acid) and Ancor-85 were found to be highly effective against Sosnowsky’s hogweed. Magnum stimulates the growth of grasses and is promising for use in areas not occupied by woody vegetation. Anchor-85 is proposed for the care of European spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) in the spring.
