The family as a social institution is dynamic and multifaceted, and this adds methodological and theoretical difficulties in achieving a coordinated view of its structure, functions and the changes that occur with it. Depending on what questions are asked, what areas of change are considered and at what level of analysis, a variety of theoretical approaches arise, which are also intertwined with social, economic, political and personal processes.
