The main objective of the work he has undertaken is diagnostics of the partial discharge (PD) effect occurring in medium voltage power capacitors. The work carried out also covers the modelling process for the phenomenon of acoustic emission generated by PDs. a PhD degree in electrical engineering from the Silesian University of Technology, Institute of Electrical Power Engineering, Gliwice, Poland. At the present time he is engaged in different applications of the acoustic emission method and other non-destructive methods, particularly in diagnostics of the insulation set-ups of electric appliances. In these fields he has published more than 300 journal and conference papers, five monographs and three books. Currently, he is a lecturer and research worker at Application of a mobile system in diagnostics of power capacitors using the acoustic emission method This paper presents the results obtained from measurements and analyses of acoustic emission (AE) signals generated by partial discharges (PD) in a model of power capacitors during experiments carried out under laboratory conditions.A remotely-controlled mobile unit (RCMU) has been used in experimental tests, allowing the safe execution of measurements in hazardous conditions. The measurement set-up and construction of the RCMU is presented. The study confirmed that it is possible to use a remotely-controlled mobile unit for carrying out measurements under high voltage.The most significant contribution of the paper lies in the idea that the PD of a condenser for electric power is detected using a mobile system, which can also be applied for other purposes related to the non-destructive diagnosis of power equipment systems working under difficult operating conditions.
