The thicknesses of oxide films formed in aqueous borate solutions were obtained by the spectrophotometric method after developing the interference colors by evaporating a verv thin film of gold or bismuth onto the oxide. The refractive index of the-stripped films was determined by the Becke immersion method as 1.57 to 1.58 a t 5 900 -4 wavelength. T h e dielectric constant was estimated as 9.8 f 0.5. Experimental data on the steady state ionic current density, I , through the oxide a s a function of the field strength, E, in the oxide could be represented by I = I D exp --(W -q a E ) / k T where I D = 2.24 X 107.1 cmr2, I.V = 1.3 f 0.15 eV, q = 3 e , a = 2.95 f 0.15 A.
The conductances of a number of tetra-n-alkylarn~no~~ium bromides and iodides have been measured in acetonitrile. Limiting equivalent conductances and dissociatio~l constants have been evaluated by two methods. Limiting equivalent ionic conductances have been evaluated from these results. Correlatioi~s have been made of the effect of ion size on the ionic conductances and on the relative order of magnitude of the dissociation constants. In an appendix the limiting ionic conductances of a number of other ions have been collected from the existing literature.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
