Summary
Data concerning endometrial secretory activity are reviewed in relation to synthesis, storage and release during the luteal phase of the ovarian cycle. It is concluded, contrary to current thinking, that both production and release of secretions are greatly reduced as progesteronal activity is established and that the major changes observed in the post‐ovulatory endometrium result from retention of small quantities of secretion. Consideration is given to the implications of this new concept.
