The title compound, cadmium bismuth dioxide chloride, CdBiO2Cl, was obtained as a white powder by reaction of solid BiOCl with CdO at 973 K. Ab initio crystal structure determination was carried out using X-ray powder diffraction techniques, including direct methods for atom location and Rietveld fitting for the final refinement. Being monoclinic, the crystal structure can be related to tetragonal Sillen layered phases. The main structural elements present are CdBiO2+ pleated metal-oxygen layers alternating with Cl layers along the c axis, whereas along the b axis, all atoms are on mirror planes. The formation of a strong Cd-Cl bond draws the layers together, causing layer deformation and a monoclinic distortion in the layer arrangement.
—Integrated geological and geochemical studies were performed for lignite from the Yenisei middle reaches, represented by carbonized fragments of trees with high germanium contents. Geochemical characteristics of terrigenous sediments with Ge-bearing lignite are determined. The chemical and mineral compositions, textures, and structures of carbonized wood fragments were studied. Scanning of individual cross sections of lignite fragments has revealed a regular distribution of germanium and impurity elements. Consistent patterns of the formation of Ge-containing lignites have been established, as well as the processes of their posthydrothermal transformation, which led to the impoverishment of the primary contents of the valuable component and to the input of a number of impurity elements. The latter formed rims over the lignite fragments and microveinlets with sulfide mineralization. The hypothesis has been put forward that germanium mineralization formed in lignites of the Kas basin, in particular, the Serchanskoe deposit.
Oxygen impurity in Germanium single crystals has been characterized using Fourier transformed infrared spectrometry. The crystals were grown by Czochralski method in an argon atmosphere. The oxygen concentration in crystals was determined on optical density from the absorption band at 843 cm−1. It was established that oxygen dissolved concentration in Germanium is variable from 0,2·1016 to 1,3·1016 сm−3. The oxygen band maximum shifts toward 856 cm−1 when its concentration increases under the influence of annealing in the oxygen containing atmosphere with ≤ 10−3 Па.
