Zelinka and Marvan system was used as a methodological basis for developing a method for mea suring thermoindicator properties of zooplankton species, including the determination of thermal valence and indicator weight. A list of indicator species for thermal conditions in the water body was compiled, and the species, in accordance with the water temperature they prefer, were grouped into cryobionts, cryophiles, thermophiles, and thermobionts. A thermal index was proposed to assess its thermal preference; this index allows seasonal variations in the community, associated with cooling or warming of the water body, to be char acterized. The knowledge of the dynamics of the thermal index can largely help one to monitor changes in zooplankton community under thermal impact on aquatic ecosystems. Thermal indication system can be of use in the analysis of the effect of global warming on the biota of water bodies and in the prediction of its future transformation.
Abstract⎯Thermoindicator properties of phytoplankton in waterbodies of the Southern Urals are deter mined, and a list of indicator species is compiled. The groups of stenothermal and eurythermal species, as well as those of cryobiontic, cryophilic, thermophilic, and thermobiontic organisms, have been distinguished. A comparison of the thermal indicators with the known ones is made. The list of thermal indicator species makes it possible to analyze changes in waterbodies under the impact of global warming.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
