Background: Substance use is a major public health concern in global settings, and is very common during adolescence period leading to physical and/or mental health complications. This study assessed the prevalence of substance use and associated factors among high school adolescents in Rithepani 2, Lekhnath, Kaski, 2073.
Background: Uterine prolapse is the main public health problem of reproductive age women in Nepal. Uterine prolapse (UP), which affects about 10% of women of reproductive age in Nepal, is the most frequently reported cause of poor health in women of reproductive age and postmenopausal women. Currently, women's awareness of UP is unknown, and attempts to unravel the UP problem are inadequate.
Introduction: Incisional hernia is a common problem after abdominal surgery. Patients present with pain, swelling and intestinal obstruction. It may be repaired by either anatomical suturing or mesh repair.
Methods:It is a prospective observational study conducted in Western Regional Hospital and Fewa City Hospital, Pokhara from 2013 to 2016. A total of consecutive 100 patients admitted in these hospitals during the study period were included. Results: Incisional hernia is more common in females (M : F = 1 : 3.8), and in 30 -50 years age group (60%). Major risk factors were wound infection (30%), overweight (25%), and postoperative cough (10%). It is found to be more associated with gynecological (65%), than gastrointestinal operations, and more so with lower abdominal midline incision (65%). It is found to occur mostly within one year (60%) of primary surgery than later. Even 24% of the patients had first symptom within six months. Mesh repair (92%) was the preferred standard surgical treatment for incisional hernia.
Conclusion:Overweight females of age range between 30 -50 years with history of gynecological operations by lower abdominal midline incision are more prone to develop incisional hernia. This incidence increases when there is wound infection. Mesh repair is the choice of operation for incisional hernia.

Introduction: Tumors of the salivary gland are relatively uncommon and represent less than two percentage of all head and neck neoplasms. Parotid gland tumor comprises 85% of the salivary gland tumors of which 80% are being benign. Superficial parotidectomy is the commonest procedure done for parotid tumors which can be performed by either anteretrograde or retrograde facial nerve dissection technique.
Background: The aim of this study is to compare sutureless Hemorroidectomy with Conventional Open Hemorrhoidectomy in terms of safety and clinical efficacy.Method: A prospective analytical study of 60 operated patients (a nonrandomized cohort) was carried out by following up from admission to 1 month period after hospital discharge in between July, 2013 to February, 2014 in Western Regional Hospital, Pokhara, Nepal. Demographic data, clinical data, mean operation time, duration of hospital stay, number of parenteral analgesic injections and post-operative complications between the two groups were recorded and analyzed.Result: There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of age, gender, duration of symptoms, grade of the hemorrhoid(s), or number of hemorrhoids resected. The mean operating time for LigaSure sutureless hemorrhoidectomy was significantly shorter than that for the Open hemorrhoidectomy (P < 0.001). Patients treated with the LigaSure technique had less blood loss, a better pain score (P < 0.001), less parenteral analgesic requirement (P < 0.001), shorter hospital stay (P < 0.001), and early return to work (P < 0.01). Conclusion: Sutureless Technique is safe and effective as compared to Conventional Open Hemorrhoidectomy for grade III and IV hemorrhoids.Nepal Journal of Medical Sciences Vol.3(2) 2014: 121-123
