SUMMARY
Thirty‐three organic chemicals have been investigated for their cathodoluminescent properties under standard conditions in the scanning electron microscope. The results are classified according to the luminescent yield of these substances and to the decrease of the luminescence after the specimen was scanned for a given time at magnifications of about × 1700 and × 3500 (beam effect). The relationship between molecular structure and luminescent yield, and the origin of the beam effect are difficult to describe. Reference has been made to data obtained from scintillation‐counting studies.
