The picture quality inspection for the completed copying machines is an appearance inspection which is assumed to be difficult since it depends on inspector'ssenses. However, the reliable appearance inspection is required for stabilizing the product quality and for collecting data for design improvement.Applying the image processing technology, we have developed the in-line picture quality inspecting machine which adopts the picture quality determining method taking account the human visual sense characteristics and the image processing systim capable of quickly detecting fine defects.The machine has the learning function to generate automatically the inspection criteria based on the measurement data of approved product, so that the treatment of visual measurement data has been eased. The result of measurement with this machine has been compared with the result of visual inspection by inspector, and the validity of the machine has been proved.
