We present two approaches for studying the uniformity of a tunnel barrier. The first approach is based on measuring single-electron and two-electron tunneling in a hybrid single-electron transistor. Our measurements indicate that the effective area of a conduction channel is about one order of magnitude larger than predicted by theoretical calculations. With the second method, transmission electron microscopy, we demonstrate that variations in the barrier thickness are a plausible explanation for the larger effective area and an enhancement of higher order tunneling processes.
This research examines the attitude of faculty lectors, Information Technology students (IT) and humanitarian students (HS) towards the aspects of forced distance learning (DL) due to Covid-19. About 70% of the surveyed IT students and 50% of HS believe that DL can fully replace face-to-face classes and completely switch to DL, about 70% of lecturers have the opposite opinion. At the same time, IT had a 4.5 times higher chance of a positive attitude towards the transition to DL than HS. The majority of all respondents consider that their own notes are important and that classroom learning is better than online. At the same time, among IT that are ready to switch to DL, 69.03% believe that the perception of educational material is better in the classroom. Fewer IT students (30.1%) than HS (68.2%) and lecturers (100%) consider that printed textbooks are important. About 70-90% of students consider that the following DL disadvantages are important: communication difficulties, cocial isolation, the need of self-discipline and self-motivation and fears that the employer will not appreciate the knowledge gained from DL. The authors consider the problem of gender inequality in wages, which exists in Russia and throughout the world. A gender-sensitive budget is one way of overcoming gender inequality. The authors study the local budgets of two municipal organizations in the city of Novosibirsk, the local police and the local school, and analyze whether there is gender inequality in wages. They then provide an internal policy on ensuring equal pay for work of equal complexity, which can be used as a guide in state (budgetary) organizations in Russia when drawing up and executing their budgets.
Ternary alloy CdSSe nanowires and nanoribbons were successfully grown through a one-step thermal evaporation route using Au as a catalyst. The nanostructures obtained are uniform in diameter, and have smooth surfaces. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive x-ray spectra and x-ray diffraction showed that both the nanowires and the nanoribbons have high-quality single-crystalline nature, and their compositions can be determined as CdS 0.6 Se 0.4 and CdS 0.3 Se 0.7 , respectively. The mechanisms of formation of these two different nanostructures were discussed. The photoluminescence measurements showed very strong band-edge emission for both samples, which further demonstrates the single-crystal nature of the as-obtained CdSSe alloys. This finding may be extended for fabricating other composition-tunable 1D ternary alloy nanostructures.
