Although the presence of eosinophils could be considered a nonspe¬ cific finding, the final interpretation of the liver biopsy specimen was then "severe acute hepatitis, possibly due to drug sensitivi¬ ty."Propranolol and hydrochlorothiazide were substituted for hydralazine. Five days later serum transaminase levels fell toward normal limits. The liver diminished in volume and the patient felt much improved. She was discharged, but readmitted six months later for a control liver biopsy.
