Gamma and conversion electron radiations following the decay of 1.7 s 123mC~ and 5.9 min lZsCs have been studied in singles and coincidence with mass-separated sources at the ISOLDE facility. Evidence for a 61.7 keV E3 transition, de-exciting the yisomeric state of I2ks, has been found. A scheme for the 123Cs ground-state decay including 11 new low-spin levels has been constructed. Log ff values have been calculated; limits on possible spins are deduced which invalidate in particular the previous J = { assignment for the 180.6 keV level in '"Xe. The results are discussed in the frame of odd-mass neutrondeficient Cs and Xe systematics. RADIOACTIVITY 123mC~, 123Cs (from La(p, 3p14n)), E,= 600 MeV, on-line massseparated sources; measured T1/2, E,, I,, E,, I,, yy coin, y ce coin; L23Cs, L23Xe; deduced levels, J , n, log fl. Ge(Li), Si(Li) and plastic detectors.
Three high-spin precursors of the qisomeric level at 3.12 MeV in 43Sc have been studied using the 29Si(i60, ~n )~~S c reaction at beam energies of 40 and 42 MeV. The decay scheme was established with the aid of y-y coincidence experiments. These previously unreported levels have excitation energies of 5517, 6429 and 7355 keV with probable spins and parities of ?+, 9' and ?+ respectively. The mean lifetimes of these levels have been found to be <90 fs for the 5517 keV level, 235 k 2.2 ps for the 6429 keV level and 600 k 160 fs for the 7355 keV level. Definite spin and parity assignments of yand yhave also been made for the 1830 keV and 2987 keV levels respectively. The data are compared with the results of a simple shell-model calculation. NUCLEAR REACTIONS 29Si('60, ~n )~~S c , E = 40, 42 MeV; measured prompt and delayed yy coin, RDM, DSAM, angular distributions, linear polarisations ; deduced levels, z , , . I , II, 8, y branchings. Ge(Li) detectors, enriched targets, compared with shell model.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
