The planar motion of a charged particle in a logarithmic potential is studied in the context of an electrostatic cylindrical spectrometer. The trajectory is found to be bounded and to have a period, 2P, lying in the interval 7~ < 2P< WT. General spectrometer design considerations are discussed, and a method for calculating resolution is described. A specific example of spectrometer design is included.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
