The paper chromatographie system of SPOL TER and ~RX (1960) is applied to thin Iay~ ehromatography. With a formate bufTer/isopropanol relationship of 60:40 satisfactory separation of the main urinary acid glycotaminoglycans can be achieved within 5 to 6 hours. Mucopolysaccharidoses types I + 11, 111, V, and VI may be identuled using thin Iayer ehromatography instead of the more tinJe consuming column ehromatography.
