With increasing scale and complexity of networked applications, the concept of system of systems has recently emerged. This paper introduces a new systems engineering approach that can be utilised uniformly to represent integrated static descriptions of systems and their behaviours along with control specifications. It avoids the multiplicity of views associated with object-oriented techniques. Its ontology is simpler in that it incorporates only a few notions: things, flows, and their stages and triggering. This paper demonstrates the advantages of the proposed modelling technique by producing a high-level systematic specification (comparable to such tools as process flow diagrams) and using this model to depict the management and control of a system. To demonstrate the viability of the model, it is applied to developing a diagrammatic description of processes in a water distillation plant.
We propose a design for securing machine-to-machine (M2M) communications for field connected IoT devices by using the blockchain technology for digital identity management. Our approach considers a fundamental issue with public key cryptography, which is certificate issuance, revocation, and distribution. The blockchain design eliminates the need for a single authority for identity management and provides security by design for digital identity management and distribution.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
