Various misconceptions and negative attitudes about vitiligo among the public are prevalent. Educating the public about vitiligo could ultimately lead to better psychosocial well-being of vitiligo patients.
Alopecia areata (AA) is relatively common and can have a significant impact on quality of life, especially in a pediatric population. Currently available treatments are often ineffective or have poor safety profiles. Recent studies have highlighted the importance of the Th1 pathway in the pathogenesis of AA, suggesting ustekinumab as a treatment modality for this disease. We present three pediatric AA patients who demonstrated hair regrowth after initiating ustekinumab.
One hundred sixty-one patients were found to have lower-lung-field tuberculosis in a retrospective study of 1566 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis admitted to Sahary Chest Hospital, Riyadh. This represents 10.3% of the total admissions over a period of four years. Lower-lung-field tuberculosis is more common in females. Twenty-six percent of the patients had had previous antitubercular treatment. Sputum conversion took 40.4 days. Average hospital stay was 50 days. Hemoptysis was found in 46% of cases and diabetes mellitus was discovered in 13%. Chest x-ray studies showed right lung involvement in 46% of cases, bilateral involvement in 29%, and left lung involvement in 25% of cases. A cavitary lesion was found in 49%.
Erythrodermic psoriasis (EP) is a severe, often refractory, variant of psoriasis. Due to the high morbidity and mortality rate associated with EP and other causes of erythroderma, they are often classified as dermatologic emergencies. EP is usually a therapeutic challenge, where topical and conventional systemic therapies have yielded a less than satisfactory result in several patients. Furthermore, there are a limited number of studies evaluating other therapeutic modalities, such as biologic agents, with no clear treatment guidelines. In this case report, we present a patient who was diagnosed as a case of EP and showed an impressive response to risankizumab.
