Natural cases of Babesia canis infection in Nigerian dogs were encountered over a two‐year period. Over 70 per cent of the dogs were less than or equal to one year of age. The hyperacute and acute forms of the disease were encountered in dogs as young as four weeks. The acute form of the disease was most common. Consistent clinical signs of the acute form included abnormal appetite, lethargy, fever, anaemia, generalised lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, emaciation and icterus. Anaemia was of the regenerative type in all cases while neutrophilic leucocytosis was mainly observed in hyperacute cases. Four dogs with hyperacute disease died despite treatment while all other dogs recovered following single dose (3–5 mg/kg) treatment with diminazene aceturate. The results of this study indicate that hyperacute babesiosis in dogs should be considered more frequently by veterinarians.
The Round Robin (RR) CPU scheduling algorithm is a fair scheduling algorithm that gives equal time quantum to all processes. The choice of the time quantum is critical as it affects the algorithm's performance. This paper proposes a new algorithm that further improved on the Improved Round Robin CPU (IRR) scheduling algorithm by Manish and AbdulKadir. The proposed algorithm was implemented and benchmarked against five other algorithms available in the literature. The proposed algorithm compared with the other algorithms, produces minimal average waiting time (AWT), average turnaround time (ATAT), and number of context switches (NCS). Based on these results, the proposed algorithm should be preferred over other scheduling algorithms for systems that adopt RR CPU scheduling.
Research was carried out to explore the fish species diversity and study some aspects of the Biology of fish of Daberam reservoir, Katsina state, for a period of three month from March to May 2009. 66 Samples of fish were collected from commercial fishermen and experimental fishing gears, preserved in formalin and taken to laboratory for identification. Seven genera comprising eleven species were identified. The regression coefficient (b) were 3.07, 2.91 and 3.21 for the three most commercially importance species in the reservoir i.e. Oreochromis niloticus, Tilapia zilli and Clarias gariepinus respectively, the results indicated Positive allometric growth for O. niloticus and C. gariepinus and negative allometric growth for T. zilli. The mean condition factor (k) was 1.140, with values of 1.027, 1.660, and 0.732 for O. niloticus, T. zilli and C. gariepinus respectively. This result indicates that the fish are not leaving well compared to other freshwater fishes.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
