In summary, both arms were comparable with regard to perioperative results and prognosis. Further prospective comparative or randomized-controlled trials focusing on the oncological impact of MIE are needed.

In terms of clinical outcome, infrainguinal subintimal angioplasty is almost equally effective in diabetics as in nondiabetics suffering from CLI.

The number of patent run-off crural vessels after the angioplasty and the length of occlusion are significant risk factors for reocclusion of infrainguinal SA in patients with CLI. Trying to recanalize more than one run-off vessels could raise the SA patency.
