A deep understanding of advanced mathematics is essential. This is without doubt. However, mathematics that is applicable on daily life is deemed more important. At least for the ones that does not belong to pure mathemacs field. One des not need to be a mathematics professor to be able to predict commute time to their work or to decide which clothes to buy with given amount of discount. This is also known as mathematical literacy. One of the key features of mathematical literacy is the integration of context. Developing or designing mathematical literacy task with local context is one of efforts to promote students’ mathematical literacy. This is because students are already familiar with the context hence they cam understand the problem statement better. The current study is design research aiming to develop mathematical literacy problems with East Kalimantan context. There are two phases in this research. The first phase is the preliminary phase. Here, PISA 2012 mathematics problems are reviewed and then researchers developed prototype problems with equal level but based on East Kalimantan context. There were nine mathematical literacy problems were developed in this phase. The second phase is the formative evaluation which consists of self evaluation, expert review and field test. From the process, nine valid items of problems with local context for measuring students’ mathematical literacy are obtained.
This study aims to explore the Dayak Kenyah tribe's bead crafts through motifs that found and relatedto geometry transformation’s concept. This kind research is the qualitative research thorough an ethnography approach. Data were collected through observation, interview and documentation. The subject of this research is bead crafts and the object of this research is the geometry transformation’s that found in the motifs of bead crafts’s made. The data obtained in this research came from derived from direct observation of interview results, the results of interview, and the results of documentation. Based on the results of the exploration, it was found that the ten bead bening, saungaban, anjat, besunung, batuksapei, beluko letto, sepeiinoq, avet, and ta’a) studied had a connection to five motifs (fern’s motif, asoq’s motif, bang bekat’s motif, pun’s motif, and silung kelunan’s motif) were used which became examples the application of geometry transformation’s concept in translation.
Mathematics learning, especially for preschool children, should be a fun process. Therefore, what is needed is a learning media which promotes fun and, at the same time, meaningful learning. The current community service aims to guide parents, especially mothers, to make simple learning media. The participants comprised 20 women and members of the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) in Sungai Pinang Luar Sub-district. Presentation and practice are methods employed in this community service. The Renault showed that participants could use attainable material to make simple mathematics learning media. It is expected that after this activity, parents become more engaged in supporting their children's mathematics learning.
When studying mathematics, many students consider mathematics to be a difficult subject because they see it as a close system that prioritizes standards of rigor, speed, and memory. Conventional learning methods might make students bored. Various model is needed to overcome this. One of which is the culture associated with learning mathematics, known as ethnomathematics. The purpose of this study was to explore the bead crafts of the Kenyah Dayak tribe, located in Kalimantan, Indonesia, that develop heritage motifs attributed to the concept of geometric transformations on rotation and dilatation. This type of research was qualitative research involving observation, interviews, and documentation. The subject of this study was bead craft in the local area and the object of this study was the concept of geometric transformation on rotation and dilatation that exists in the craft motifs of the beads made. The data obtained in this study provides insights into the various cultural objects that can be used for triggering mathematics thinking. Through this resource, students may understand geometric concepts such as rotation and dilation, applicable to the real context of their daily life.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
