The aim of this paper is to determine the influence of blended learning environments on self-regulated and self-directed learning skills of undergraduate students. The explanatory sequential mixed method was used. In total 167 students participated in the study. While sixty students taking "Programming Languages" course at Computer Education and Instructional Technologies Department constituted the experimental group, 102 undergraduates-65 of them from the same department (Control 1) and 42 from Electronic Engineering Department (Control 2) formed the control groups. Self-directed Learning Readiness Scale, Self-regulated Learning Scale and semi-structured interviews were used as data collection instruments. While the experimental group received blended instruction, control groups received traditional instruction for weeks. The findings of the study revealed that self-regulated and self-directed scores of experimental group differed significantly from the control groups` indicating that the use of blended instruction is more effective than traditional instruction in terms of developing self-regulated and self-directed learning skills. Students in the experimental group pointed out that the blended learning environment presented rich content, easy accessibility, effective guidance and motivation.
Purpose of this study is to compare students' course achievement and attitudes towards computers in computer literacy course between two course delivery methods: Blended and face-to-face (FTF). Using a pretest-posttest control group experimental design model, participants were assigned to experimental and control groups purposefully in order to achieve group equivalency. The study was conducted during the fall of the 2006-2007 academic year. Participants were 179 students from the Faculty of Education at Uludag University in Turkey. 86 students were taught with the blended mode of delivery, which involved using both FTF and online modes of instruction; 93 students were taught with FTF mode alone. At the beginning of the study, prior knowledge about computer literacy and attitudes towards computers were measured in both groups. At the end of the study, students' final course scores and attitude scores towards computers were evaluated. Data were analyzed using independent samples t-tests. A statistically significant difference was found between the FTF and blended group (p<0.05). The analysis showed that the blended group was more successful than the traditional group in terms of both course achievement and attitudes towards computers.
This study describes the theoretical foundations of a learning environment designed for an ICT teachers’ graduate level course, and presents a comprehensive analysis of the qualitative data acquired regarding the course’s implementation. Participants in the study included six ICT teachers enrolled in the “Embedded Systems and Robotic Applications” course of Spring 2018. A design-based research approach was used in order to achieve a systematic but flexible methodology. Within the scope of this study, robotics was used as a cognitive tool, and authentic learning principles were applied. The participants’ reflections about the learning environment indicated that they were satisfied with the course settings, their motivation increased after the course, and they learned more effectively through the scaffolding provided by the instructor.
<span>The aim of this study was to design a learning environment supported by a problem-based learning method and to obtain students' views on this process. In this context, the Database Management Systems course was taught according to the problem-based learning method. The participants of the study consisted of 25 students from the 2nd-grade students studying in the Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology in the spring semester of 2015 at Uludag University Faculty of Education. The research design of this study was the case study, which is one of the qualitative research designs. Data were obtained from the students via a semi-structured interview form. Descriptive analysis was applied to the data obtained from the interview. According to the results obtained from the analysis of the data, the students were generally satisfied with the problem-based learning practices. In addition, the students emphasized that it is important to have a sufficient level of necessary knowledge of the implementation of problem-based learning to design the classroom environment.</span>
