This paper presents a comprehensive framework to implement complex Systems Engineering (SE) methods and processes in a tool agnostic IT architecture. The framework is based on a central systems engineering engine, connecting to several commonly used SE tools and the PLM system. The central engine holds algorithms required for some key SE analyses including change propagation, requirements traceability, impact analysis, and dependency matrices. The framework can be configured for any industry domain. In this paper, the framework is explained by along with its features like requirements elicitation, traceability, function modeling, CAD modeling and V&V.
This paper discusses the approaches to assess system complexity, and in turn the need for Systems Engineering (SE) implementation. The extent of SE implementation which is optimal for an organization is a function of multiple parameters. The effect of these parameters is discussed by taking few examples. The paper also proposes a methodology to measure the SE maturity of an organization which will help to monitor its progress in terms of direction and speed. The last section also discusses on the importance of change management in any such large scale process change and how to achieve it effectively. The authors believe that the availability of such comprehensive toolset for SE assessment will equally benefit the organizations which are yet to embark on the journey of systems engineering and the ones which are in the mid‐way and re‐evaluating their approach.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
