Vietnam remains an exciting investment destination. Long term success in this East Asian country, however, requires effective management of resources including employees. This paper examines the literature and interviews with local employees in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to identify cross-cultural communication and leadership issues at the international workplaces.
In the last decade Vietnam experienced rapid economic growth. The fast growing economy in turn attracted large numbers of international companies and their managers to set up shop on its shores. This paper reviews the relevant literature and draws from interviews with experienced international managers in Ho Chi Minh City or HCMC to identify the issues they faced when communicating with the local employees at work. This paper highlights the importance of knowing and understanding the different perspectives on communication.
This study explores the corporate social responsibility or CSR reporting of the top 8 Malaysian owned and operated hotel chains. Using content analysis this report examines what and how do the local hotel chains report their CSR activities. This study finds CSR reporting to be limited and primarily focused on community based initiatives. And despite its growth and popularity especially among the young, CSR reporting on websites remain minimal. As such, several recommendations have been made to encourage more reporting and more reporting on websites.
This study explores the depiction of local culture in the Indonesian websites of English and American companies operating in Indonesia. The objective is to evaluate if the websites have been adapted to the local culture of Indonesia. Content analysis was employed in the analysis utilising an instrument applied in many similar types of research on website content analysis. Results of the study suggest that more effort is needed by the foreign companies to adapt their websites to this local cultural environment, particularly with regards to the cultural dimensions of high context, collectivism and power distance.
