Mangrove ecotourism is one of the important tourism in the coastal area. Mangrove ecosystems not only have physical and biological functions, but also have socioeconomic functions, including tourism potential. Utilization of mangrove areas to be ecotourism areas is an alternative that is very likely and high strategic, considering that ecotourism activities can encourage conservation of mangrove ecosystems as a buffer zone in coastal areas in particular. This study aims to formulate a model of mangrove ecotourism management in Lantebung of Makassar City. The study was conducted with a dynamic system approach with Powersim software (student version). The study location is at Lantebung of Makassar City, especially in mangrove area. Data collection, consist of; literature study, interviews and field observations. The results study obtained two dynamic model scenarios related to the management of the Lantebung mangrove eco-tourism, it’s known that the optimal level of management that can be done now is to encourage better tourism promotion. This can be seen from the dynamic model results obtained that scenario-2 (the strategy to increase tourism promotion is 10%) is more optimal than scenario-1 (the strategy to increase community empowerment is 10%). Even though the aspect of mangrove conservation scenario-1 is better where it can increase the extent of existing mangroves (20 Ha) to 28.54 Ha or an increase about is 42.70%. Whereas the mangrove scenarios only increased to 25.25 Ha or increased about is 26.25% in the same period. While from the economic aspect, the scenario-2 is able to generate income from ecotourism of 620.25 million, and scenario-1 only produces 588.81 million in the next 30 years.
Abstract. Askar H, Tahang H, Sutinah S, Fakhriyyah S, Bahar A, Tresnati J, Tuwo A. 2021. Short Communication: Using ecological parameters to assess the sustainability of mangrove ecotourism in Jeneponto, South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 22: 3571-3577. Mangrove forest is an essential ecosystem that provides various ecosystem services. Among various land use management in mangrove areas, ecotourism is considered as a sustainable economic activity that can improve socio-economic benefits while conserving the mangrove ecosystem. Therefore, ecotourism management must refer to sustainable development principles. This study aims to assess the sustainability status of mangrove forests in Idaman Mangrove Ecotourism in Balang Baru Village, Tarowang Sub-district, Jeneponto District, South Sulawesi, Indonesia using some parameters including the extent, density and diversity of mangrove vegetation, tidal height and animal biota that occurred in the mangroves. The study used line transect method and quadrat transect, and the data were analyzed using Rapfish (Rapid Appraisal for Fisheries) method. The study indicated that the sustainability status of IME for the ecological dimension was in the entirely sustainable category with an ecological dimension value was 58.50. While the mangrove is currently managed sustainably, to go further, it requires all stakeholders' cooperation in improving the dimensions of sustainability, which had a low value, especially the mangrove trees thickness.
The objective of the study was to analyze the relationship between coral reef cover and abundance of reef fish in Marine Tourism Park of the Kapoposang Islands, South Sulawesi. This research was conducted on April 2019. Collecting coral cover data using the Underwater Photo Transect (UPT) method and coral fish data collection using Underwater Visual Census (UVC) with belt transects. The research results of coral fish found in the study site were 15 families and 54 species. The highest abundance of reef fish was foun d at site I, which was 6280 ind/ha with a percentage of live coral cover of 34% (Moderate), while the lowest abundance w as found at site III of 2100 ind/ha with a percentage of live coral cover of 5% (Poor). The relationship between the abundance of reef fish and the percentage of live coral cover can be seen in the results of the regression analysis of the value of r 2 = 0.942, this value indicates that there is a close relationship between abundance of reef fish with the percentage of live coral cover, that is if the coral cover percentage is getting better then the number of fish more abundant coral.
