The difficulty of speaking English, especially for first graders It will be a sustainable issue. Seeing that phenomenon, this study aimed to see difficulty in speaking English among first graders of English education Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. There are two in this study. This study takes a qualitative approach of choosing a location and choosing Students will batch 2020 as a participant in this study. Participants were selected through recommendations from all instructors who taught the course. About difficulty in speaking English, 4 difficulties in this study. The result was Interference from students' dialect according to the research results, the dominant the interference to students‟ spoken language is interfere with pronunciation stress any part of the word. Student dialect factors difficulties speaking English (internal factor = self-confidence) main distractions to students performance was an interference with spoken language performance lasses that make students more confident, those students who felt wrong in the lecture English and their friends can’t understand because they spoke English was like they speak the local dialect, it interferes the motivation of the student to speak.
This research was taken from online media in the form of a Michelle Obama interview with Oprah Winfrey. First is Oprah's 2020 vision tour talk show. The talk show led by Oprah Winfrey tends to be more serious when discussing something that also affects the style of the conversations. Second, Oprah Winfrey Hold a Conversation on the United States of Women Summit by the white house. . The method used is descriptive qualitative by analyzing several utterances in Michelle utterances. This research accompaniment three research questions by analyzing the Pragmatic feature in Michelle Obama and the stylistic feature in Michelle Obama. Then the common patterns of Michelle Obama's arguments in her interviews. The results showed that Michelle maintains her argument through a pragmatic feature with adjacency pairs consisting of Q and A, Acceptance, Recognition, Agreement, and Approval. From a stylistic perspective, Oprah uses Hyperbole, Simile, Personification, Anaphora, and Parallelism. After the research compared both Michelle's interviews on Oprah's show, Michelle often uses the Agreement pattern and some of the figures of speech. During the research, researchers found the main idea of maintaining her argument. From maintaining that argument, the researcher also found three important points from Michelle's two interviews with her audience: Maintaining dignity, the importance of focusing on yourself, keep dreaming.
This study aims to examine the use of listening strategies to facilitate the students’ listening competence and aims to examine the students’ perception about the roles of listening strategies. Using a qualitative research as the design of the research, the researcher collects the data through observation in listening classroom and interview to the university students. The result reveals that the lecturer used Flowerdew and Miller’ listening strategies, such as metacognitive strategies, cognitive strategies, and socioaffective strategies to facilitate the students in improving their listening competence, Moreover, the students perceive that the roles of listening strategies can help them to enhance their competence and help them become more skillful in listening.
