Shrimp trawl net is the prominent fishing gear that beneficially supports shrimp industries in Kotabaru, Indonesia. However, concurrently local fishermen have no idea how trawl works under towing condition. For this reason, a flume test of a 1/8 scale model net with varying wing-end widths was undertaken. The flow speeds of model were 48, 56, 64, 72, and 80 cm s–1. Meanwhile wing tips distance was set at 46–66% of head-rope length. At a towing speed of 64 cm s–1 (2-knot in full scale), the net height was 12 cm, the projective area of net mouth was 9.16×102 cm2, water filtering volume was 58.44×103 cm3 s–1 and total net resistance was 6.34×102 g. The ratios of net height to net circumference ranged of 0.04–0.08. The net height was 5.5% of net circumference and getting lower at higher towing speeds. The exponent value of 1.40 was smaller than the suggested value (2.0) indicating the shape of net body should be refined by inserting triangle nets between the side net and baiting. Moreover, the length of nets should be afforded to the lacing lines to increase the height of net opening by better distributing the towing forces.
This study contributes to the knowledge of traditional fishing gears and the weight-length relationship of fish species from the Bangkau Swamp, Indonesia. Although the use of fishing gears in Bangkau swamp complies with the local regulation but still, some weaknesses have been identified and the options for improvements are being proposed. The length-weight relationship of three dominant fish species, Channa striata, Trichogaster trichopterus, and T. pectoralis were analyzed. The b values ranged from 1.531 to 2.646, with R2 values ranged from 0.814 to 0.917 indicating negative allometric growth pattern; the species becomes leaner as the length increases. The food availability and temperature may have an effect on the growth pattern since the fishes were sampled in dry season. To the best our knowledge, this study is the first reference on WLR for swamp fish in the Bangkau village.
The catching efficiency of traditional traps: Ayunan and Tamba were tested in Sungai Batang River, South Kalimantan of Indonesia. Trials consisted of 320-trap hauls/type using 1-day submersion time of 24 hr. The baited traps sampling accounted for 82 specimens assigned to 5 species of 5 families. There was a large variability in number of catch between prawns and fish species collected (T=2.318, P<0.05). The prawns catch was represented by only the species Macrobrachium rossenbergii with total of 53 and 1,015 g weight. The prawns weight of Tamba was significantly higher than that of Ayunan (T=3.453, P<0.01).The fish catch composed of Mystus gulio 79%, Osteochilus hasselti 10%, Hypostomus plecostomus 7%, and Macrognathus aculeatus 3%, with total weight ranged from 35 to 560 g. A clear difference was found in catching efficiency. Comparative fishing trials showed that Tamba collected specimens were 1.8 times higher than Ayunan (T=2.223, P<0.05). Catch per unit effort for Tamba ranged from 58.13 to 80.00, and for Ayunan ranged from 5.31 to 7.19. The gear modifications and various treatments (e.g. bait odor, light) are necessary to be taken to increase their relative catching efficiency.

Terdapat kerumitan dalam pengolahan data selama ini yaitu menentukan penduduk miskin yang menjadi prioritas utama penerima bantuan di antara sekian banyak data penduduk miskin di Kecamatan Banjarmasin Tengah, Kesulitan itu muncul akibat banyaknya jumlah penduduk miskin di setiap kelurahan, yang harus mempertimbangkan faktor-faktor seperti rumah yang ditempati tidak layak huni, kepala keluarga tidak bekerja, penghasilan rata rata perbulan, jumlah orang dalam suatu rumah tangga, ada anggota keluarga yang masih sekolah. Dengan mencermati permasalahan di atas data mining menggunakan proses clustering, sangat tepat digunakan untuk membangkitkan prioritas kesadaran masyarakat di antara ratusan masyarakat miskin di Kecamatan Banjarmasin Tengah, pentingnya masing-masing parameter tersebut menjadi tolak ukur untuk memilih populasi yang akan dipilih. menjadi prioritas utama untuk menerima bantuan Program Keluarga Harapan (PKH) bagi keluarga berpenghasilan rendah.
