The fluthors measured the distribu tion equilibria oj oxygen between Liquid iron and soLid by directly equilibriating the liquid and solid phases. First, the melting point oj jJUrified iron (1 538°C) and the monotectic point (1528°C, 0.16%Q) were confirmed by analyzing the cooling curve. Next, the liquidus Line was confirmed and then the soLidus Line was determined. Both lines were nearly Linear. Final!;" the jJartition ratio oj oxygen between liquid iron and solid was determined to be 0.076; it was almost independent on tem/Jemture. Thus, the solubili~y oj oxygen in iJiron was determined to be 0.012° ~ at 1 528°C, and the heat oj Jusion q{ iron was Jound to be 3450 cal/mole, which was in good agreem,mt with the /JYesently known value.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
