Maine’s Portland Public Schools has for years been committed to racial equity, but that commitment has been both an asset and a barrier to making the district hospitable to educators of color. The district’s progressive and anti-racist stance led many white educators to assume that their colleagues did not experience interpersonal or institutional racism. However, when Doris Santoro, Julia Hazel, and Alberto Morales interviewed educators throughout the district they found that experiences of racism were pervasive. Knowing that white educators might tend to deny that reality and not wanting to further burden the district’s educators of color with sharing their trauma or observing their colleagues’ ignorance, they undertook a deliberate process to share their findings in ways that considered the needs of all educators in the system.

The fountain is especially important in the design of spouted beds for the treatment of plastic wastes. The height and structure of the fountain in shallow spouted beds have been determined by means of an optical fiber as well as by an image treatment system. The effect of the operating variables on the fountain geometry (height and amplitude) has been analyzed by carrying out the operation with different values of the geometric factors of the contactor (base angle and gas inlet diameter) and of the operating conditions (stagnant bed height, particle diameter, particle density, particle shape, and air velocity). The materials studied are different plastic wastes (polyethylene, polypropylene, and polystyrene, both extruded and expanded). In the fountain, the core or solid ascending zone and the periphery or solid descending zone have been delimited. The experimental results prove the validity for plastic materials of the equation proven previously for prediction of the height of the fountain in cylindrical spouted beds of a conical base for glass spheres. An original equation has been proposed for prediction of the amplitude of the fountain in cylindrical spouted beds of a conical base for materials of varying density and shape.

The applicability of conical spouted bed reactors for the treatment of cork caps has been studied by means of a hydrodynamic study with homogeneous beds of cork of different size in different experimental conditions. The validity of the ranges of the geometric factors of the contactor and of the contactor-particle system for stable spouting established in previous papers and of the equation for the calculation of the minimum spouting velocity proposed for granular materials and glass spheres has been proven for beds consisting of cork. The suitable design of the conical spouted bed reactor for the combustion of cork wastes requires the previous knowledge of the ranges of the geometric factors of the contactor and of the contactor-particle system for stable spouting.

Resumen. El Setecientos verá el impacto popular e histórico de los intensos procesos migratorios de jóvenes provincianos norteños en busca de futuro. Todos hidalgos norteños que protegían su idiosincrasia jurídica junto a los intereses de las autoridades de sus lugares de origen. Muchos de ellos sin ayuda de cadenas migratorias o viejas redes clientelares. Madrid, Cádiz o México vieron surgir centros de ayuda al emigrante por criterios de origen o naturaleza. Hospitales, cofradías o congregaciones fueron los tres prototipos asociativos de esta corriente migratoria norteña. Tal movilidad y el surgir de estas "comunidades emocionales" (en los centros políticos, culturales, administrativos y económicos del Imperio español) se concentra en tiempos de Felipe V y Fernando VI. Estas agencias de colocación y espacios de representación cultural y política muestran la organización conferida por las autoridades del norte de España para resolver algunos peligros derivados de los procesos migratorios de sus jóvenes. The 1700s saw the historical and popular impact of the strong migratory process of northern young men who searched for a future. All of them were northern "hidalgos" who protect their juridical idiosyncrasy together with the interests of the authorities of their original countries. Many of them got it without the help of migratory chains or old patronage networks. Madrid, Cadiz or Mexico saw the emergence of centres where emigrants were helped taking in account their origin and nature. Hospitals, brotherhoods and congregations were the three associative prototypes of this northern migratory flow.
