The present study was undertaken to determine the influence of spray-drying suspension characteristics (deflocculation state and solids content) on granule morphology and resulting tiles. Totally and partially deflocculated suspensions were found to produce hollow granules, whereas over-deflocculated suspensions or suspensions with a high solids content gave rise to solid granules. Finally, the presence of large-size pores in fired porcelain tile was related to the inner voids of the spray-dried powder granules.
