A comparison of the efficacy of the lecture and seminar‐case‐study methods of teaching psychiatry to medical students was attempted in this study. Little difference was found between the methods with respect to the amount of information acquired by students. The paper describes some of the formidable problems encountered in attempts to measure changes in the students' attitudes, in their sensitivity to the nuances of interpersonal relatonships and in other non‐cognitive elements.
