In certain cases the compounds contained a colored impurity which was removed only after numerous crystallizations.These 2-alkylbenzimidazoles form salts with acids (picric, sulfuric, etc.) which might be used in distinguishing the higher members of the series. This possibility has not yet been investigated. Summary 1. A procedure for the preparation of 2-alkylbenzimidazoles from aliphatic acids and o-phenylenediamine has been described.2.
