OPERATIONAL SAFETY FOR CST BLAST-FURNACE 2 TROUGHS AbstractCST Blast-Furnace 2 has two main troughs in operation and produces 3800 t/day of hot metal. When one of these troughs is under refractory maintenance, it induces a reduction in the amount o taphole mix injected and an increase in the interval between taps. These changes in blast-furnace operational variables create difficulties for the slag and hot metal tapping, reducing the taphole length and promoting a potential loss in the hot metal production/day. This paper shows the main activities developed in the casthouse refractory maintenance work between 2002 and 2006 which allowed main trough campaigns greater than 100 days of operation, with high operational security.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
