Framework: Synthesis, Structure, and Bonding. -Single crystals of Ni 5.73InSe2 are prepared by solid state reaction of the elements (6:1:2 or 9:2:2 ratio; evacuated silica tubes, 650 C, 7 d). The intermetallic phase crystallizes isotypic with the Ni 7-xMQ2 phases (M: Si, Ge, Sn, Sb; Q: S, Se, Te) in the tetragonal space group I4/mmm with Z = 2 (single crystal XRD). The structure is composed of In-centered [Ni 12In] cuboctahedra of the Cu 3Au type and [Ni4-xSe2] blocks of the Cu2Sb type alternating along the c axis. DFT calculations predict metallic properties and indicate a temperature-independent paramagnetic behavior which is supported by electrical resistivity measurements and magnetic susceptibility data between 300 and 120 K. An ELI-D (electron localizability indicator) topological analysis shows the multi-centered nature of the bonding in both the Ni-In and Ni-Se fragments. -(KUZNETSOV*, A. N.; SEROV, A. A.; Eur.
ChemInform is a weekly Abstracting Service, delivering concise information at a glance that was extracted from about 100 leading journals. To access a ChemInform Abstract of an article which was published elsewhere, please select a “Full Text” option. The original article is trackable via the “References” option.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
