Human kidney cells were treated with three types of Aqueous Film-Forming Foams (AFFFs) used by firefighters for suppression of Class B fires to examine potential cytotoxic effects. All three AFFFs led to significant decrease in cell proliferation, even in concentrations 10-fold lower than the working concentration used for fire suppression.
