The moustached bats, Pteronotus davyi, P. personatus, and P. parnellii, and bat, Mormoops megalophylla (Mormoopidae), are homeotherms with normal basal rates of metabolism for mammals of their body mass. They are temperatures below 15TC for long, and none of the four species studied appe torpor. Thermal conductance of each species is high compared to expected v mals, but within the upper range of available values for bats. Except in P. p females have lower basal rates of metabolism than conspecific males. We h this sexual difference in basal rate of metabolism is related to the different ther at roost sites for each sex and that roost temperature is an important select evolution of thermoregulatory patterns and basal rate of metabolism in bat
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
