Bladder cancer is relatively common in the general population but is considered a rare entity in children. Rhabdomyosarcoma is the most frequently encountered bladder tumor in children. Inverted papilloma of the urinary bladder is a rare presentation in adults and is considered extremely rare in the pediatric age group. We report a case of inverted urothelial papilloma (IUP) in the bladder in an 8-year-old girl who presented with painless gross hematuria. Radiological investigations, cystoscopy, and histological examination revealed the rare pathology of IUP of the bladder and a resection was performed. No recurrence was encountered after 3 years of follow-up.
Penile hair tourniquet syndrome (PHTS) is an unusual phenomenon. A physician should have a high index of suspicion when a circumcised child presents with glans swelling and inflammation. It must be considered a surgical emergency, as early diagnosis and treatment can prevent complications (e.g., urethra-cutaneous fistula, complete urethral transection, penile gangrene, and penile amputation). We report a case of two-year-old boy to highlight the importance of early diagnosis and prompt treatment.
Bladder outlet obstruction in younger men is usually secondary to urethral stricture disease. In the elderly, it is often a due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Bladder obstruction secondary to Brunn's Cyst should be considered as a differential diagnosis in young men with acute onset of obstructive symptoms and a cystic lesion at the bladder neck. We report a case of bladder outlet obstruction secondary to Brunn's cyst in a 21-year-old male. Radiological investigations, cystoscopy, and histological examination revealed the rare pathology, which was managed by endoscopic de-roofing of the cyst. The symptoms resolved dramatically, with no recurrence.
The penetrating scrotal trauma is rare in children. Due to low incidence of penetrating scrotal injuries in children, the evaluation and management of this type of injuries has not been well described. To prevent the long term sequalae and complications all such injuries require a prompt surgical exploration and management. We are reporting a five-year-old boy with a penetrating injury in his scrotum due to a bamboo stick. After the stabilization and lab and radiological workup patient was subjected to surgical exploration. Inspite of the severity of the trauma the testis and the spermatic cord were spared of any injury.
