IntroductionThis paper explores teachers’ views on the impact of STEM education on the labor market. This study focused on teachers’ views to investigate STEM education and the labor market and the relationship between the two.MethodsThe sample consisted of 32 teachers from different branches. Participants were recruited using purposive convenience sampling. This paper adopted a qualitative case study research design. Qualitative data were collected using a semi-structured interview form. The qualitative data were analyzed using inductive content and descriptive analysis.ResultsParticipants stated that STEM education offered new fields of work, promoted entrepreneurship, and increased job opportunities. They also noted that STEM education helped reduce social costs. They emphasized that STEM education made participants happy, prevented brain drain, and reduced social problems. On the other hand, they also noted that STEM education could lead to technological unemployment. The descriptive analyses showed that STEM education had a positive impact on employment, a reduction in social costs, and a positive impact on underemployment. In light of the results, we made recommendations for future research.
ÖzBir ekonomide kriz ve genişleme dönemlerinde cari açığı kapatmak için yabancı sermayeye duyulan ihtiyaç ve ihtiyacın şiddeti değişmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı cari açık ve yabancı sermaye ilişkisinin yönünü tespit etmektir. Çalışma iki dönem olarak incelenmiştir. Birinci dönem 1992-2001 yıllarını kapsayan ulusal krizlerin yaşandığı kriz dönemidir. İkinci dönem ise 2002-2015 yıllarını kapsayan ülke ekonomisinin krizden çıktığı ve ekonominin genişlediği dönem olan ekonomik genişleme dönemidir. Değişkenlerimiz aylık verilerdir. Çalışmada ADF ve PP birim kök testleri ve Granger nedensellik testi kullanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak iki farklı dönem için cari açığın yabancı sermayenin nedeni olduğu ve yabancı sermayeyi etkilediği tespit edilmiştir. Foreign Direct Investment and Current Account Deficit with Relations and Policy Recommendations for the Current Account Deficit AbstractAn economy in crisis and periods of expansion to close the current account deficit changes the intensity of the need and the need to foreign capital. In the mixed economy which private and public enterprises are active in economic life, have their primary goal which is to maximize social prosperity. Public enterprises in Turkey were used to function as a means of economic improvement in parallel with the role of government in the 20th century. Public enterprises out of the aimed social prosperity, they have certain political aims of accomplishing resource allocation, fair income distribution and sustainable growth. These lead to some problems of public enterprises which have strengthened the privatization arguments especially through the end of 20th century. The aim of this study has to investigated (stay away from the controversial issue of privatization and the focus on) the activities of a public enterprise and its contribution to local and national economy. So we will focus on Ülfet Stock Company of Food and Soap Industry which was established in Gaziantep, in 1955 to produce olive oil, soap and glycerin and privatized in 2001. The establishing a public enterprise in this region has to increases a culture of industrialization and regional, agricultural production as well as added value. The result of this study has significant implications for public enterprise. Local governments and policy makers in their search of strategies for improving the roles of public and private enterprises in economy.
