<p>We investigate the impact of board size and board composition on performance for a sample of 30 commercial banks from 2008 to 2012 in Turkey. We measure bank performance by two alternative measures widely used in the banking literature, i.e. operating return on assets (OROA) and return on assets (ROA). Controlling for bank size, credit risk, liquidity risk, net interest margin and non-interest income, the results of panel fixed effects regression suggest that board size has a significantly positive effect on bank’s financial performance. This means that Turkish commercial banks may improve their financial performance by increasing their board size. Our findings, however, show clearly that there is no significant relationship between board composition (ratio of outside directors on the board) and banks’ financial performance.</p>
ÖzBu çalışmanın amacı, çalışanların örgütsel destek algılarının işe adanmışlık üzerindeki etkisinde yönetici desteğinin aracılık rolünü tespit etmektir. Bu maksatla 680 çalışanı olan bir konfeksiyon firması üzerinde bir alan araştırması gerçekleştirilmiştir. 307 çalışan üzerine uygulanan anketlerden elde edilen veriler, korelasyon ve hiyerarşik regresyon analizine tabi tutulmuştur. Analiz sonuçlarına göre örgütsel desteğin, işe adanmışlık ve yönetici desteği üzerinde etkili bir faktör olduğu görülmüş ve örgütsel desteğin, işe adanmışlık üzerine etkisine yönetici desteğinin tam aracılık rolü olduğu tespit edilmiştir.Anahtar Kelimeler: Örgütsel Destek, Yönetici Desteği, Đşe Adanmışlık, Aracılık Rolü AbstractThe aim of this study is to determine the mediation role of supervisor support on the relationship between employees' perceived organizational support and work engagement. For this purpose, a field research is carried out for an apparel firm having 680 employees. The data obtained from applied surveys for 307 employees is subjected to correlation and hierarchical regression analysis. In terms of the results of analysis, organizational support was found as a significant variable on impacting work engagement and supervisor support, and it was also found that supervisor support has a complete-mediation role.
Abuse of 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA,Ecstasy) is still growing over the last years and reports of severe or even fatal complications, such as arrhythmias, hyperpyrexia, rhabdomyolysis, disseminated intravascular coagulopathy (DIC), acute renal or liver failure or brain oedema are also increasing. We report the case of a 21-year-old male who took a suicidal overdose of MDMA and subsequently developed severe hyperpyrexia (>43 degrees C/109.4 degrees F), rhabdomyolysis with an initial myoglobin level of 88,000 microg/l, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) and beginning renal and liver failure. Infusing dantrolene 140 mg (2.5 mg/kg body weight) i.v. and using supportive cooling was effective in treating hyperpyrexia. To support renal function and diuresis we increased the intravenous fluid supply up to 5 l per day which led to a raised elimination of myoglobin, urea nitrogen and creatinine within 1 week. Hemodialysis was not necessary. DIC was treated according to laboratory parameters by supply of antithrombin (AT) III, fresh frozen plasma, prothrombin complex concentrates (PPSB) and continuous aprotinin 100,000 IE/h.
This study aims to contribute to the strategic decisions of airline companies in determining of their destinations. Using the data of 617 airlines, it was tried to investigate whether there are rules of association between the companies' destinations. Through the analysis made with two different data sets, the rules of association were sought considering both all the destinations and the foreign destinations of the companies. In the analysis of all destinations, 197 rules could be produced with 90% and above confidence level. In the analysis between the companies' foreign destinations, 200 rules with 100% confidence level could be produced. It is presented as a suggestion that airlines can benefit from these rules in their destination planning.
Bu çalışmanın amacı Türk sanayi dalında, yöneticilerin, stratejik yönetim yaklaşımları konusundaki tercihlerinde yöneticilerin demografik özelliklerinin etkili olup olmadığı araştırılmasıdır. Araştırma İstanbul Sanayi Odasının (ISO) yayınlamış olduğu Türkiye’de sanayi sektöründe faaliyet gösteren ilk 500 büyük sanayi kuruluşu ve ikinci 500 büyük sanayi kuruluşu üzerinde yapılmıştır. Yöneticilere uygulanan anket 26 ifadeden oluşup analize tabi olan anket sayısı 177’dir. Elde edilen verilerin analizi sonucunda yöneticilere ilişkin demografik faktörler açısından tercihlerin Pozisyon okulu yaklaşımı yönünde olduğu; yöneticilerin yaşı, pozisyonları ve firmalarındaki deneyim sürelerinin tercihlerini etkilemediği görülmüştür. Bununla birlikte erkek yöneticilerin kadın yöneticilere göre; lise mezunu yöneticilerin, lisans, yüksek lisans mezunu ve doktoralı yöneticilere göre; yüksekokul mezunu yöneticilerin ise lisans ve yüksek lisans mezunu yöneticilere göre Pozisyon okulu yaklaşımını, daha fazla benimsedikleri görülmüştür.
