This study intends to analyze the relation between school principals' leadership styles and teachers' perception of organizational cynicism. The study group consists of 268 participants teaching at high schools in the Balıkesir district of Turkey during 2014-2015 academic year. In the study, which used relational survey model, data was collected through Democratic Leadership Scale and Organizational Cynicism Scale and analyzed by mean scores, independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and simple linear regression. The results revealed that democratic leadership is a significant predictor of organizational cynicism, and it is negatively connected with organizational cynicism. In addition, it was found that there were significant differences between seniority and gender groups as regards democratic leadership, between seniority groups as regards all dimensions of organizational cynicism, and between gender as regards affective cynicism. All the results of the study showed that the democratic leadership style displayed by school principals influences the organizational cynicism perceived by teachers.
This research explores the relationship between scientific epistemological beliefs and educational philosophies of formation teacher candidates. The research was conducted in the summer pedagogical formation program at Balikesir University of Necatibey Education Faculty during the 2016-17 academic years. The research, conducted with 379 candidate teachers, indicates that teacher candidates hold a significantly high score in sub-dimensions of reasoning and in changeability of knowledge concerning scientific epistemological beliefs. The most adopted educational philosophies are progressive and reconstructionist philosophies of education. There is a significant difference between the viewpoints of teacher candidates in terms of gender in relation to both scientific epistemological beliefs and educational philosophies. Same difference also prevails between the teacher candidates' fields of study. Departmental difference is between Natural Sciences/Mathematics fields and Skill/Competence fields. The research has determined a low correlation between the teacher candidates' scientific epistemological beliefs and their educational philosophies. The research results support the results of the existing researches in the literature.
This survey explores the effect of organizational culture on organizational trust. The study group includes 253 primary and secondary school teachers working in Balıkesir, Turkey and the study has a descriptive survey design. The data was collected by School Culture Scale and Organizational Trust Scale. The results showed that the duty culture is the dominant school culture. It is the principal that the teachers trust the most. The secondary school teachers believe that a success oriented and supportive atmosphere exists at workplace and trust their coworkers more than they do the principal. The support and duty dimensions of organizational culture are significant predictors of organizational trust. Based on the results of the study, it can be suggested that school administrators enhance a supportive culture at their institutions. The theoretical significance of the study is that the results of the study will help to better understand the organizational behavior and the practical significance of the study is that these results can be used to increase the organizational efficiency.
