The aim of this study was to determine the level of social distance towards visually impaired people in relation to the occupation of respondents. The study included 361 adult respondents from the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and who had no personal, not professional contact with persons with impaired vision. For the purpose of this study was used scale of social distance (Oullette-Kuntz, Burge, Brown, Arsenault, 2010), which is adapted in terms of required statements and opinions of respondents to visually impaired people, rather than toward people with intellectual disabilities. For statistical analyzes were used methods of descriptive statistics, and methods of analysis of variance (ANOVA). All results of the study were conducted at a significance level of 0.05. The results indicate that there is no statistically significant difference in the opinions and level of social distance in relation to the occupation of respondents.
Health self-evaluation, as a subjective measure, is related to person’s well-being because it encapsulates physical and emotional health evaluation. It has been concluded that subjective health is, for most of people, number one trait of quality of living that is connected to health. Individual is to decide which aspects of objective situation are important for their satisfaction in life. In other words, way in which a person will perceive and react to an objective situation depends on their personal traits. Aim of this research was to examine the differences in relation to gender and health state of visually impaired older persons of that live in institutional accommodation, by self-evaluation. Respondents sample was comprised of 40 visually impaired older persons, both genders (13 male and 27 female) that live in nursing home “Dom penzionera” in Tuzla. Research has been conducted by interview, using questionnaire “Quality of life of adult persons with motoric disabilities in territory of Vojvodina” (Susnjevic, 2015). Because of the structure of questions in questionnaire, it was possible to apply it on visually impaired persons as well. Data acquired had been processed with descriptive statistics, hi-squre and t – test, in order to determine if there were differences in relation to gender and selfevaluation of physical and social functioning. Results of the research have shown that although means have proven that there are differences in acquired results between respondents of male and female gender, results of t-test have shown that those differences are not statistically significant. Presence of any kind of damage, and visual impairment as well can influence person’s psychological and physical integrity.
The motor development of the child, especially motor coordination, is important for performing purposeful activities. The aim of this study was to determine the impact of individual educational and rehabilitation treatment on motor coordination in students with visual impairment. The sample included one student, male, aged 9 years, with a diagnosis of nystagmus, amblyopia and astigmatism. The initial and final assessment was done with the student, and the Beery-Buktenica developmental test of visual-motor integration (VMI) fifth edition was used for the same, which is intended for the assessment of visual-motor integration, visual perception and motor coordination. For the purposes of this research, the subtest Motor Coordination was used, which consists of 30 tasks. After the initial assessment, an individual educational-rehabilitation treatment lasting 2 months was conducted. Survey data was processed by frequency analysis. Based on the obtained results, it can be concluded that there has been an improvement in students in the field of motor coordination. The results of the research indicated the importance of recognizing students with motor coordination difficulties as early as possible, as well as the importance of conducting educational and rehabilitation treatment, with a positive effect on motor coordination. Keywords: visual impairment, motor coordination, educational-rehabilitation program.
The aim of this work was to examine existence of influence of visually impairment type on the rate of reading of visually impairment students, primary school's age, from the Centre for blind and partially sighted children and youth in Sarajevo. One minute test of laud reading is used for reading rate examination (Furlan, 1965), which makes the list of 120 words arranged from easier and shorter, to heavier and longer. We used the form C, and the result of examinees represents number of correctly read words in one minute. Results demonstrated that there is statistically evident difference within the group of visually impaired students with a different type of visual impairment. The work points out to the importance of individual approach, adaptation of working environment as well as enabling aids during education of students with a different type of visual impairment.
