Owing to its highly unsaturated nature, the CtC triple bond is one of the most fascinating fragments in chemistry. Possessing characteristic two-coordinate sp-hybridized carbon atoms, acetylene, the simplest yet most important alkyne, is exceptional as it may be utilized to prepare a wide variety of important organic compounds.
