Análise dos efeitos de um programa de exercícios associado à massagem como medidas preventivas para síndrome do piriforme em corredores de longa distância* Analysis of the effects of an exercise program associated to massage as preventive measure to piriformis syndrome in long distance runners
AbstractThe piriformis syndrome is characterized by compression of the sciatic nerve, because it is a very common condition in athletes. The aim of the study was to analyze the effect of exercise associated with massage program in long distance runners. This study was characterized experimental. The sample consisted of 9 runners who were randomly divided into two groups A and B, with different massage techniques and stretching, held once a week. A pre and post-intervention measurement of external and internal rotation of the hip and spine flexibility was performed to verify if they gain range of motion (ROM). The results demonstrated that the "group A" had significant differences (p <0.05) to gain range of motion in relation to the average between the "group B". It can be concluded that the massage exercise associated with re-establishing ADM and reduces the risk of a possible involvement in the halls of the piriformis syndrome.
