Abstract. The paper is devoted to the issues of aggregating static input-output models and the usage of appropriate aggregate models in macroeconomic analysis, in particular to compare the aggregated performances of economies of different countries or regions. Investigating economic systems the Input-Output models allow to detect and substantiate the proportions and disproportions in the economy at the different levels of aggregation, and to investigate the sectoral structure of the economies reflected in this paper.JEL classification: p52, B22, C67, C68.
Regional inequalities in economic growth had been observed within many countries and regions. This research emphasizes convergence/divergence technique for Ukrainian regions. As concepts of β-and σ-convergence obtained from cross-country growth models has been subjected to a number of criticisms and they do not embrace applied significance in studying regional inequalities in Ukraine, we have built improved technique of investigating disparities across Ukrainian regions. The method is based on the analysis of regional input-output tables and its aggregation. Adopted technique provides weighted aggregation (by prices) of regional input-output tables that allows analyzing the structure of total for each region across sectors (or kinds of economic activity). We showed that implementation of aggregated regional input-output tables in analysis of regional convergence and the usage of equilibrium (weighted) prices have many advantages. The main finding is that among regions of Ukraine there are reduction of disparities in structures of different kinds of economic activities.
The sustainable economic welfare of the new EU Member States is reflected in the convergence process. The paper is dedicated to the investigation of the convergence between Ukraine, Baltic countries and other EC countries within the various indices of the social-economic development. The system of economic growth models is analyzed: the convergence is theoretically grounded on the basis of Solow model, and thus the methods of empiric control of convergence concept are determined. The empiric analysis of convergence processes between above mentioned countries showed that the most spreading method of convergence presence in the rate of economic growth is the reduction of the inequality in the GDP per capita level among the countries groups.
