The dependence on imports of feed ingredients for ration composer are increasingly expensive and availability of limited and unsustainable local feed, causing the low level of production and reproduction of local Indonesian cattle. This study aims to exploit the potential of plantation waste as an alternative feed of beef cattle, increase the nutrient value and digestibility of waste of palms and leaves and to know the optimal use of inoculums (Trichoderma sp.) through fermentation in improving the digestibility and nutritional value of the feed. The research method used was a complete randomized design (RAL) with five treatments and three replications, with 14 days fermentation. The research treatment includes: PD 0 (without Trichoderma/control), PD 1 (fermentation using Trichoderma viride 3 ml), PD 2 (fermentation using Trichoderma viride 6 ml), PD 3 (fermentation using Trichoderma harzianum 3 ml), PD 4 (fermentation using Trichoderma harzianum 6 ml).O Observation parameters observed included dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), ash content (AC), coarse fat (CF), organic matter (OM), and total digestible nutrient (TDN). The data obtained were analyzed using variance analysis. The results showed that the best treatment was found in PD 1, had a significant effect on control in increasing total digestible nutrient (TDN) 51.62% and crude fiber decline by 39.14%, although an increase in CP (5.34%) was not equal to the treatment of the PD 4 (5.35%). While the best increase of CP content was found in the treatment of PD 4 of 3.35%. While the best CP content found in the treatment of PD 4 of 5.35%. It was concluded that the use of Trichoderma viride and Trichoderma harzianum can improve the quality of waste nutrient and palm oil leaves by fermentation and the optimal inoculums dose used to produce the best fermentation is the use of Trichoderma sp. 3 ml in 3kg of material.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the different combinations of intensity and color of LED monochrome lamps for optimal productivity, as well as the internal and external quality of Alabio duck eggs. The study was carried out for 4 weeks period of raising which was devided in 2 stages. In the first stage, it was used a completely randomized factorial design of 4 light colors x 3 light intensities with 4 replications with 5 ducks of each replicate, totaling 240 laying Alabio ducks. The light color was 4 colors consisted of yellow, red, blue, and green, alongside with intensity levels of 10 lux, 15 lux, and 20 lux. The irradiation method of layer ducks was 18 hours light and 10 hours dark (18L: 10D of ahemeral method). The variables observed were laying age, egg production and the total weight of eggs, mortality, feed consumption, FCR, and income over feed cost (IOFC). In the second stage, it was selected 3 best combination treatments from the first phase. The experimental method was based on a completely randomized design, encompassing the best treatments as P1, P2, and P3, with 5 replications with 10 duck per replicate, totaling 150 laying Alabio ducks. The variables were egg internal quality, which consisted of haugh unit egg, yolk index (EYI), egg albumin index, and yolk color. The external egg quality observed were egg weight, shell thickness, shape index, and specific gravity. The results of the first phase showed the best productivity was achieved in blue color with an intensity of 15 lux on all measured variables. The results in the second stage showed the best treatment is blue light color treatment with a light intensity of 15 lux, on the internal qualities of duck eggs include HU (95.11±2.39), EYI (0.421±0.63), EAI (0.121±0.12), egg yolk color (8.36±0.31), and also the best in terms of external quality, with the highest egg weight (66.76±5.21 g). It was concluded that the combination of blue light color with an intensity of 15 lux significantly increased the egg production and performance of Alabio duck from Kalimantan.
Moringa leaves contain high and complete nutrients, so they can be used as a constituentfor multi-nutrient blocks to increase libido and sperm quality. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of Moringa leaf flour in a multi-nutrient block on libido and sperm quality of the Etawah Cross-Breed (PE) goats. This study used a two-sample t-test on 8 PE goats aged 18.50±1.00 months, body weight 32±1.49 kg, kept in individual pens for 8 weeks, given the swamp forage ad libitum. A total of 4 animals were supplemented with urea molasses multi-nutrient block (UMMB) as a control, and 4 animals were supplemented with urea moringa molasses multi-nutrient block (UMMMB) as a treatment. Libido and semen quality were measured from week 4 to week 8. Measurement of scrotal circumference and blood sampling were performed at weeks 0, 5, and 8. The concentration of testosterone in plasma was analyzed using the ELISA technique. The measured variables were compared using the independent sample t-test. UMMMB supplementation did not significantly (p>0.05) increase scrotal circumference and testosterone levels. UMMMB supplementation did not significantly (p>0.05) decrease reaction time, but significantly (p<0.05) decrease mount (24.20±4.30 vs 12.93±1.58 min) and ejaculation (25.60±4.11 vs 13.97±2.23 min). UMMMB supplementation did not significantly (p>0.05) increase semen volume and sperm concentration, but significantly (p<0.05) increased total sperm motility (69.67±0.76 vs 74.67±1.46%) and sperm viability (80.37±0.68 vs 86.48±1.74%). It can be concluded that UMMMB supplementation markedly increased libido, total motility, and sperm viability of PE goats.
The objective of this research was to examine the effectiveness of coconut water with various egg yolk concentrations in maintaining the viability of epididymal spermatozoa of crossbreed cattle preserved at 5oC. Five testis with epididymides of crossbreed cattle were obtained from slaughterhouse. Epididymal spermatozoa was collected by the combination of slicing, flushing and tissues pressure methods of cauda epididymides with saline solution (0.9% NaCl). Collected-spermatozoa was equally divided in volume into four tubes and diluted with lactose extender containing 20% egg yolk (control), 90% coconut water + 10% egg yolk (CWEY10), 85% coconut water + 15% egg yolk (CWEY15), and 80% coconut water + 20% egg yolk (CWEY20), repectively. Diluted-spermatozoa was stored in refrigerator at 5oC. Quality of dilutedspermatozoa including percentages of motile spermatozoa (MS), live spermatozoa (LS), spermatozoa with intact plasma membrane (IPM) were evaluated every day during four days of storage. Data were analyzed by using completely randomized design with four treatments and five replicates. Means were compared with significant difference test at 0.05 significant level. Results of this study showed that mean of spermatozoa concentration, percentage of MS, percentage of LS, percentage of spermatozoa abnormal, and percentage of IPM of crossbreed cattle fresh epididymal spermatozoa were 1,414 million cell/ml, 72%, 85%, 9%, and 90%, respectively. At day-4 of the storage, percentages of MS, LS, and IPM of control (43, 52.2, 59.2%) and CWEY20 (42, 52, 59%) were significantly (P<0.05) higher than CWEY10 (33, 45.4, 52.8%) and CWEY15 (37, 50, 54.6%). In conclusion, lactose and CWEY20 extenders could be maintaining the quality of epidydimal spermatozoa of crossbreed cattle for three days preservation at 5oC and two days for CWEY10 and CWEY15.
