This research aims at proving whether or not teaching speaking skills using problem solving method can develop the students’ speaking skills of Grade XI at SMA Negeri 1 Ampibabo. The research employed a quantitative method with one class pretest-posttest design. The instrument of this research was a test. The populations of this research were the Grade XI students at SMA N 1 Ampibabo. The samples were 38 students of class XI IPA 1. The data of this research were collected by administering pretest and posttest. The results of the data analysis indicate that: the mean pretest score is 58.44, the mean posttest score is 67.13 and the t-counted value is 13.35. The t-critical value with a degree of freedom (df) 37 and significance level at 0.05 was 1.687. Based on the analysis above the alternative hypothesis of this research was accepted, because the t-counted value is greater than the t-table value (13.35>1.687). Thus, teaching speaking skills by using problem-solving method can significantly develop the students’ speaking skills.
This research aims to find out the translation methods that are mostly used by students of the English Education Study Program. Kind of this research is qualitative research. The subjects in this research were 10 students of Tadulako University specifically in English Education Study Program who had enrolled in the Translation and Interpretation course and selected using the snowball technique. The instrument in this research is the translation test. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the Newmark translation method theory. The results of this research indicate that there are only five translation methods applied by students in translating a text. The translation method that is mostly used by students is free translation method. The second is communicative translation method. The third is idiomatic translation method. Then, the fourth is literal translation method. The last position is faithful translation method. Meanwhile, it was also identified methods that were not applied by students, including word-for-word translation method, semantic translation method, and adaptation translation method. So it can be concluded the free translation method is a translation method that is mostly applied by English education students at Tadulako University. The results of this research also indicate that the students applied more than one method in translating a text dan they tend to apply translation methods that emphasize the target language

The results showed an increase in the average score obtained by students where the mean score of students in the pre-test was 55.6, which increased significantly by 24.1 points to 79.7. and the t-test value is greater than the t-table value. In this study, PPTs are effective in improving the reading ability of PGSD students. PPTs increased students' vocabulary and understanding of the general structure of narrative and descriptive texts. PPTs are also efficient in teaching simple past and present tenses.
