While most researchers interested in the concept of dynamic capabilities focus their attention on analyzing how companies transform their resources to compete in their environment, the process of developing dynamic capabilities is treated as a marginal issue. Although the literature suggests various approaches to developing dynamic capabilities, they are formulated in general terms, and doubts can be raised about the links between actions. There is also a lack of empirical research indicating the links between activities in the process of developing dynamic capabilities and their influence on the effectiveness of an organization. The aim of the study is to formulate a proposal for a model of the process of developing dynamic capabilities aimed at increasing the economic effectiveness of a company and to determine the links between the activities in the model. The theoretical contribution of the paper consists in presenting a model of the process of developing dynamic capabilities aimed at increasing the economic effectiveness of the company. The results presented in the paper refer to an empirical examination of the model of developing dynamic capabilities, covering five activities: searching for opportunities; knowledge management and learning; coordination; configuration and reconfiguration; and organizational adaptation. The study also includes an examination of the possible impact the components of the dynamic capabilities building process have on a company’s performance. The study uses the survey method and data was obtained from top managers. The conclusion, based on data from 471 Polish companies, was made using structural equation modelling. The results of the empirical research suggest that the individual activities in the process of developing dynamic capabilities are interconnected, and through mutual interactions and couplings, they positively affect the economic effectiveness of an enterprise. The results indicate that searching for opportunities is the precursor, and the main factor influencing the other activities in the process, which suggests that managers should focus on improving activities in this area.
This paper explores relationships among CSR practices in the social, economic and environmental dimensions and digitization in the Polish energy companies. The study used the CATI method, and the data obtained from 110 companies was analyzed using a set of methods starting with correlation analysis, through regression analysis, including backward stepwise regression. Obtained results led to the formulation of SEM (Structural Equitation Modelling) model that has been tested. Results confirm the influence of social CSR practices on practices in economics and environmental CSR dimensions and on the level of digitalization. Research also suggests that there is essentially no significant impact of the size of the enterprise on the level of digitalization, as well as on any of the analyzed types of CSR practices.
Purpose: With increasing digitalization, the debate on the direction of transformation in various sectors of the economy and their ability to keep up with the changes in this area is becoming increasingly complex. The energy industry is one of the key sectors in the economy, and as such it must follow trends and adapt to changing conditions. The aim of the paper is to diagnose and assess the level of progress in digital transformation among Polish energy sector enterprises. Design/methodology/approach: The research was conducted on a group of 110 entities, with a survey questionnaire. The gathered data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. Findings: Although the level of employing Industry 4.0 tools in Polish energy sector enterprises is at a low level, managers recognize the importance of following the path toward digital transformation. The awareness of particular digital transformation prerequisites differs depending on the phase of the digital transformation process. Research limitations/implications: Among the limitations of the research procedure, issues such as the single respondent design and the exclusion of micro entities from the research should be noted. However, the exclusion of micro entities from the analysis was intentional, and this area deserves the attention of researchers. The specificity of the functioning and organization of the activity of micro enterprises may distort the image of the sector. Referring to the single respondent design, it was assumed that in this phase of the research it is reasonable to collect individual opinions specific to a given enterprise. It would be worth extending the analysis by conducting in-depth interviews or attempting more in-depth research at the level of individual entities. Originality/value: This article contributes to the knowledge of the energy sector in Poland in the context of Industry 4.0. Keywords: digital transformation, digital strategy, digital transformation strategy, prerequisites for digital transformation, energy sector companies.
Summary Striving for a satisfactory level of effectiveness, managers must take actions aimed at achieving the set objectives and at reacting flexibly to changes that take place in the environment. They can do it by referring to the concept of dynamic capabilities that draw attention to a specific category of competences. Assuming that dynamic capabilities can be developed in any type of organisation, the article attempts to answer the question about the reasons for the differences in economic effectiveness of 13 Polish regional airports and 458 private enterprises. The results suggest that the category of economic effectiveness is important not only for private enterprises but also for regional airports. The findings reveal that the development of dynamic capabilities is conditioned not only by the period of the enterprise’s existence but also by the context of its operation, primarily the industry context.
