We report a clinical evaluation of EEG and video monitoring. In 181 consecutive records, the most common clinical indications were differentiation of epileptic and nonepileptic events (99), seizure recordings for locating a possible focus (23), seizure frequency determination (32), and investigation of possible trigger factors (19). Overall, useful information was obtained in 72% and the clinical question was answered in 67% of records. Prolonged EEG and video monitoring is therefore an important diagnostic aid in patients with proven or suspected epilepsy.

This paper discusses the cultural, attitudinal and structural factors that impact upon the social experiences and educational achievements of Arabic-speaking background (ASB) students in three Melbourne secondary schools with high levels of cultural and linguistic diversity. The paper makes the case for and then outlines a multidimensional approach to multicultural education to better integrate ASB students and their families into the schooling environment. Key strategies developed and tested include a model of school-community partnership, online and interactive teacher support material (TSM) as well as on-going teacher professional development workshops on reflexive approaches to cultural diversity and intercultural tension.

This paper presents insights into the leadership implications of recent shifts in a range of policy contexts towards notions of collaboration and partnership. The paper draws on empirical research into the formation and operation of government instituted networks in the context of education in Victoria, Australia. From 2001, School Networks and Local Learning and Employment Networks (LLEN) were implemented by the state government to support young people in their transition through school and into employment in a context of a risk society (Beck 1992), a context where pathways into sustainable employment for young people, and others, had become more erratic.
