This study explores parents' patterns of strategies in monitor their children's online activities. A total of 171 parents involved in this study filled out an open-ended survey, where we analyzed their answers using a combination of six steps of Braun and Clarke's (2006) Thematic Analysis procedure and De Farias et al.'s (2020) logical procedure of similarity with MAXQDA 2020 visual tools. The central theme emerged the internet monitoring strategies: regulation, guidance, trust-space, and direct intervention. From parents' perspective, the effective internet parental monitoring strategy was not only proactive but also reactive, especially when children were directly exposed to the online risks or violated the family media use agreement. Parents were optimizing the benefits of children online activity and minimizing the online risks. Parents were also concerned about the top three vital psycho-social factors: generosity, self-control, and critical-technical skills in mastering the cyberworld. Afterward, parents with children of a specific middle schoolers group tend to talk about strategies of internet parental monitoring.

When access to information on the internet is expected to support the growth to adulthood, cyberbullying is instead becoming a threat to adolescents' psychological well-being. Parental mediation and self-esteem are considered as protective factors to youngsters from online risk. The present study examines whether self-esteem mediates the relationship between perceived parental mediation and cyberbullying. The study participants were 351 senior high school social students in Yogyakarta who are media and internet users. The data were collected using the Cyberbullying Scale (Cronbach’ α = 0.784), Self-Esteem Scale (Cronbach’ α = 0.766), and Perceived Parental Mediation Scale (Cronbach’ α = 0.656). Analysis using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) showed that the proposed model was reached the goodness-of-fit ( = 53.711; df = 18; p = 0.001; RMSEA = 0.075; GFI= 0.964; CFI= 0.923). This study concluded that self-esteem partially mediated parental mediation and cyberbullying, with an indirect effect = -0.047 (p = 0.024; p<0.05). Self-esteem as the cognitive-personality factor and optimal parental mediation as environmental factors were considered to prevent adolescent cyberbullying. Therefore, we would recommend practitioners of educational, social, and clinical psychology to take the opportunity to involve self-esteem and parental mediation factors in intervention program design.
Nowadays, parents face the challenge related to social media use problems of their children, as the internet and related technology is more advance than previous days. Nevertheless, the young generation is enthusiastic about digital technology. The paradox of internet use in young and older generations has a different meaning as it widens the digital literacy gap. This study aimed to explore digital monitoring on the experiences of 123 participants. They were divided into four focus groups based on the stages of family development i.e. a group of single and new couples (n = 54), a group of families with children aged 0-6 years (n = 24), a group of families with children aged 7-11 years (n = 26), and a group of families with children over 11 years old (n = 29). There were 17 participants actively giving their thoughts, feelings, and experiences to focus group discussions within two hours of conversations. Using the Grounded Theory method and MAXQDA assistance of the 2018 version, we categorized themes based on 571 code systems. The topics discussed were digital monitoring strategies, digital paradoxes, digital parenting, role synergy, experiential learning supported digitally, and privacy. The contribution of this research to digital monitoring theories is the exploration of participants' contextual experiences.
Human flourishing entails a state of complete, intrinsic self-fulfillment; however, the concept also embraces interpersonal interaction through social connection. This research aims to explore the concept and dynamics of flourishing Muslim families. The data collection involved 45 to 120 minutes of in-depth interviews with five participant families. A qualitative approach was taken, with Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) and MAXQDA 2020 techniques used to organize the data. We utilized the Ephocé and member-checking and adopted workflow protocol management tools (i.e., MAXQDA 2020) to ensure data credibility. Four superordinate themes emerged, namely compassionate love in collaboration; the adaptation process; relatedness to the larger circle beyond nuclear family members; and the role of religious and local wisdom teachings. All the themes were related to establishing the nature of a flourishing family. It is concluded that the meaning of “flourishing family” for the Indonesian Muslim Families participants emphasized shared relational well-being, which is more complex than the simple “human flourishing” concept. The findings contribute to developing the concept of a flourishing family through evidence based on empirical data regarding efforts to maintain positive potential in the family.
