The paper presents the results of creation and investigation of dependencies of notification sections and notification times from train speed at different methods of automatic level crossing safety installation control. The authors consider automatic level crossing safety installation systems with notification sections of fixed length and with the control based on approaching train characteristics. As a result, method of automatic level crossing safety installation control based on train characteristics simultaneously increases safety and decreases time of crossing closure for road transport.
The paper shows investigations of relationship between the length of approach sections of level crossing safety installation and braking distances of trains. It is established that the existing methods of calculating approach sections of automatic level crossing safety installation don’t guarantee, if necessary, a full stop of a train by braking before a crossing after it’s closure. The authors have formulated a condition when a train can be stopped before a closed crossing occupied by a motor vehicle. They have also carried out a verification of the existing automatic level crossing safety installation systems and established that such systems don’t comply the formulated condition, so the full stop of a train is not guaranteed. So, the authors have proposed measures on developing an algorithm of automatic level crossing safety installation operation for the control of automatic stop of a train before a crossing occupied by a motor vehicle. It is shown that the development of engineering is on a level sufficient for realization of this suggestions.
The paper considers a possibility of a wider use of alternative means for control of track sections inoccupation on the JSC «RZD» objects. In order to exclude the decrease of operation safety the authors propose to consider the exposure of a track section to rail failures at equipping with alternative means of their detection, as well as the influence of rail circuits and operational measures on detecting failures and prevention of crashes.
The paper provides an overview of means for track availability checkup used on the JSC RZD railway network. It is established that axle counting systems have a limited distribution and widely used track circuits don’t always prevent from train crashes. It means that track circuits don’t provide a complete safety of railway operation. As a result, the authors propose to widen the application of axle counting systems on objects of Russian railways. The authors have also carried out an analysis of fixed failures and determined parameters that have the greatest influence on their appearance, which will exclude the decrease in safety of railway operation at equipment of track section with axle counting systems.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
